The problem

AI assistants need reliable SQL Server context and clear limits. Copying schema details into chat or granting unrestricted database access makes accuracy and control harder.

How SQL Cockpit helps

The local stdio SQL Cockpit MCP Server exposes six tools backed by the SQL Cockpit REST API. They inspect context and generate migration SQL for review; they do not execute SQL, start synchronisations or validate outcomes.

Use cases

  • Inspect a SQL table schema from an MCP-compatible client
  • Find and review a synchronisation configuration
  • Request advisory batch-size guidance
  • Generate migration SQL for human review

Features

  • MCP client connection
  • Synchronisation context
  • Table schema inspection
  • Batch-size guidance
  • Migration SQL drafts
  • Human review boundary

FAQ

Does SQL Cockpit let AI run SQL against my database?

The current MCP Server does not expose an arbitrary SQL execution tool. Migration tools generate SQL for review; execution requires a separate approved process.

Which AI clients can connect?

Clients that support local stdio MCP servers can connect when configured with the server path and SQL Cockpit API access.

Can AI monitor jobs or start a table sync?

Not through the current six MCP tools. They do not expose live job telemetry or sync execution.
